To reward yourself at the end of a hard day a happy hour is a very happy thing. To facilitate happiness, here are some great ones around town. SeattleBarFly's partner, Hartson Photography, tries to finish up their photo sessions with a nice break.. around 4-ish.. also about the time everyone clogs the freeway. So a perfect time for a happy hours- yes?

The SeattleBarFly has culled together this list from many newspapers, friends, and much personal experience wandering in our humble downtown area happy spots over ‘a few years’. To all those whom write for local newspapers my hat is off to you for all the indirect help... and here is a direct 'Thank You'. This list is all downtown Seattle with very limited exception.

McCormicks Restaurants The $1.95 bar food menu (including a 1/2 lb. cheeseburger) has changed to offer $2.95 and $3.95 options. Still, a great deal for great food. Generously-poured drinks. Mon.-Fri. 3-6 p.m. & 10 p.m.-midnight, Sat./Sun. 4-6 p.m. & 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Three locations: 1103 First, 623-5500; 722 Fourth, 682-3900; and 1200 Westlake N. (called The Harborside), 270-9052. En A short-and-extremely-worthwhile walk from downtown. En is a prime post-work retreat; happy hour Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  House wines ($3.95) Imported beer ($2.95). The modern Japanese appetizers (two-for-one during happy hour) will knock you on your ass.. if the drinks haven’t already. The food, like the decor, is exquisitely understated. The agedashi is enough to make a grownup cry with its tofu cubes—golden on the outside, silky soft on the inside—basking in a pond of salty fish-broth goodness. With all the good food and ample portions, the happy prices will make you feel like you’re getting away with something. Get to know Wei, the owner. 2429 Second, 770-0250.

Dragonfish Asian Cafe with seven different sushi half-rolls for $1.95, awesome hot appetizer menu ranging from $2.75-$3.50; drafts, cocktails, and sake all $2.75. 4-6 p.m. & 10-1 a.m. 722 Pine, 467-7777.

Brasa goes extra-Spanish every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., with the flamenco guitar of Marcos Carmona and tapas-style appetizers-sherried mushrooms, seafood paella, grilled sardines, empanadas, flash-fried squid, and egg-and-potato-cake torta español-passed dim-sum-wise and just $3 an item. 2107 First, 728-4220.

Mortons of Chicago  5-7 M-F. Expensive drinks but free steak sandwiches.. Look for the red carpet mid-block to find the doorway leading down to this maaavelously happy place in downtown. 1511 Sixth.

Vessel An elegant new lounge right next to the 5th Ave Theater- perfect. They are happy from 4-6 every day and offer generous 3-ounce martinis. Apples with Vermont chedder, mushroom turnovers, and marinated Creole prawns are happy too. 1312 5th Ave, 206-652-5222 www.VesselSeattle.com.

Vons Grand City Cafe  4-7pm, 10-close daily. $3 double martinis all day everyday.. Yippie! Check THE WHEEL which is spun every half hour for specials. I have fond memories of Von’s visits during winter holidays. A classic Martini Bar. The slow roasted beef is top notch. Near Pacific Place at 619 Pine St.

Broadway / Central District

Arena Bar at GameWorks Refreshingly, Arena Bar has the obvious down to a science—from requisite bar fare like chili fries, nachos, chicken tenders, to the obligatory pool tables and electronic bar games like football and golf.  Its snappy motto, “Eat, drink, party, and play,” epitomizes obviousness: It’s a bar -so isn’t that the point? Arena’s happy hour? Half-price appetizers mak’em all under $5, drinks $2.50 or less for house margaritas or well cocktails, with $2 domestic drafts. Predictably, their happy hour is 4 to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. 1511 Seventh, 206-521-0952.

Art Bar, The  Whoa.. Finally someone got it right! a NOON to 9pm M-F, 3-9pm Sat, 4-9pm Sun.. My Oh My.. there’s a long happy hour! Classic $2.50 wells, $2.75 micros, $8 pitchers.  Unknown food options but with a daily long-running happy hour like that, who cares? They must open the doors each day with major happiness. 1516 2^nd Ave.

Arnies The Seattle location closed, but still worth the listing there in Edmonds. Great classic seafood with a view! Cozy atmosphere with attentive servers sums up Arnie’s with e-nuff happy hour offerings to please anybody -26 of’em- and all at half price. Shooters to salads, ribs to tacos, dips to strips all 4U to enjoy and most priced around  $4.99 to $6.99. Microbrews $3 to $4, wine $4 to $8 bucks. Mix drinks. Sunday thru Friday 3pm – 6pm with Saturday 4pm - 6pm.  Must sit inside the lounge for specials! Sheesh! Avenue One Tasty tapas-style bar specials-soup of the day ($3.50), spicy steamed mussels ($4.50), onion-thyme tart ($3) and more; there's even a daily fish special at $13. If you're really hungry, consider the $29 prix fixe dinner: three courses centering on a choice of salmon and braised ribs, pork loin and Savoy cabbage, or potato-mushroom lasagna. Azteca The cheesy, grande Mexican chain’s Ballard outpost has happy hour every day, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., offering $3 beers and a few Ameri-Mexican snacks for the same price. Olé. 2319 N.W. Market, 782-7079.

Bad Alberts Tap and Grill  $3.50 wells, $3 imports, $2-2.50 micros, $7 micro brew pitchers. No food specials. 3-6pm, M-F. A Ballard pub! 5100 Ballard Ave NW. 

Bad Juju Lounge  4-7pm M-F.  $2.50 wells, $1 off drafts.  Capitol Hill. 1518 11^th Ave. 

Baltic Room, The  5-9pm daily. All day Sun. $3 wells, imports, and wine..  $2 domestics. Hipster lounge. Capitol Hill. 414 E. Pine. 206-625-4444.

Barge Inn. Whoa, A classic Ballard pub indeed! Offering $1 domestics and $3 premium pints.. ya cant go wrong. 3-7 pm M-F. Cash only. Ballard. 610 NW 65^th St.

Bleachers  -read carefully- Thur and Sat from 7-8pm (very slim offering there). $3 pitchers of Bud and Bud Light. Geeze, whatever happened to our local brews? Cheap pool though. 8118 Greenwood Ave N.

Broadway Grill, The There’s something weird and fun about getting drunk in the middle of the day—particularly at the Broadway Grill. With Broadway’s bizarre foot traffic a mere stone’s throw away, the bar seems an oasis, and it’s got all the ingredients: real live tropical trees, hanging plastic fruit, midday game shows on the big screen, and good, stiff drinks.  Happy hour’s from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with $1.50 draft beer, $2 well drinks, and $3 wines and call drinks; if you haven’t had your fill (or even if you have), you can come back for a second round between 11 p.m. and last call. Appetizers are half-price during happy hour Monday through Thursday—try the Dungeness crab and artichoke dip, or the toasted baguette with Cambozola cheese, almonds, and tomato-basil salsa. Bookstore Library Bistro  2-6pm daily. $4 house wine, $4 appetizers. Downtown. 1007 First Ave. 206-382-1506

Bush Garden With a faux pagoda roof over the bar and cushy vinyl seats with roller wheels, it's cherry-blossom Japan meets American airport cocktail lounge, and the results are pleasing indeed. The 2-for-1 appetizer (including skewers of shrimp wrapped in bacon-now that's a snack, people!) and sushi happy hour will make you extra-happy. Calypso -CLOSED. What the heck happened here? Great food but now closed. This little house-turned-restaurant is Seattle’s best kept secret.. Caribbean style. The food is (was) fabulous. Maple Leaf area. 7917 Roosevelt Way NE 206-525-5118

Capitol Club, The  5-7pm daily. Needs review. Outdoor veranda. Capitol Hill 414 E. Pine.

Celtic Bayou You crave jambalaya. She wants a heaping plate of bangers and mash. If this dilemma sounds frightfully familiar the Celtic Bayou is the answer to all your prayers. Cross-cultural wackiness knows no strict boundaries here –Cajun food and Irish beer… Happy hour DAILY from 4  to 7 pm, and two of the Bayou’s fine selection of Far West Ireland Brewing  Company beers are chosen at random each hour for the low, low price of $2.50  a pint. OUTDOOR SEATING! sweetens the deal. The Bayou’s location—it’s tucked into a strip mall spitting distance from 520—is also a godsend for those who’ve longed for a one-stop destination where you can drop off the dry cleaning, get a buzz, and buy a parakeet. Chandlers Crab House  3-6:30pm, 9:30-close daily. 1/2 off beer and wine. $2.95 appetizers. Look out for “Crabby Hour” - Oh my. Eastlake. 901 Fairview Ave N.

China Harbor  (The downtown Seattle location) 4-6pm M-F. Not rated but they list a happy hour Got a minute? Please review! Major dancing location for Salsa and for events with the Dancing DJ Ron Bolin. Just up Westlake from the Harborside. 2040 Westlake Ave N.

Chinooks at Salmon Bay Fisherman’s Terminal 206-283-HOOK (4665)

College Inn Pub, The 11am-6pm M-F. $2.50 wells, .75c brews of the week. U-dist. 4006 University Way NE

Coho Cafe Appetizers for hearty appetites include smoked salmon quesadilla, harissa-spiced pork ribs, double-fried chicken wings, and rock-shrimp cakes, all $7.99. Dollar off draft beer, or wine by the glass, and well drinks. OUTDOOR SEATING! 3-6 p.m. daily. 8976 161st N.E., Redmond, 425-885-2646.

Contour A coppery bar and tabletops in a dim, cool, high-ceilinged room; weird naked plaster bodies stuck on the wall (hey, that’s his foot, OK?); Willie Nelson incongruously on the stereo; an extremely nice bartender; what’s not to like? And Contour’s happy hour appetizers are not your basic bar food—they’re unique, tasty, and practically free ($1.95!). The rosemary chicken strips and the spanakopita are really quite good; the zucchini fries with tzatziki are just adequate, but for $1.95 it’s just fine. Drinks, $2 Dos Equis and $3.50 well drinks, are adequate, too. Enjoy them in the OUTDOOR SEATING!, idyllic for First Avenue people-watching and  bus-exhaust-fume-inhaling. Dad Watsons. One of Fremont’s long-time establishments. Mr. Watson offers many tasty happy hour apps around $4, with .50c off wells and wine, and they brew their own suds too! $3 pints or $8.75 pitchers. 3-6pm. 3601 Fremont Ave N. 

Daniels Broiler  4-6:30pm daily. Drink specials. 1/2 price appetizers like their prime rib sandwiches. OUTDOOR SEATING on southeast corner of Lake Union. 809 Fairview Ave N.

Dantes  4-6pm, and 8-10 M-Th; 4-6 F,; Sat night and all day Sunday.. whew. Many, many offerings with food and brews. Jaeger shots too. Plus, air hockey, pool, games and more. U-dist. 5300 Roosevelt Way NE.

Diner Are you the type of person who likes to lounge in a red vinyl booth and watch Crossfire while simultaneously listening to ’80s music? Of course you are. If you’re also the type of person who likes to drink beer in the late afternoon, Diner is the place to be. There are $2 domestics, $2.50 microbrews, and $3 imports Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a daily happy hour food special for $2.99 (e.g., Monday, hot dog and chips; Thursday, cheeseburger  and fries). Want to drink with the kids? Diner also has a soda fountain happy hour between 3 and 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Drink a big, thick lager and watch those cute rug rats color the menu. 72 S. Dukes The boats outside the windows gently rock and the generic marine decor soothes; and Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., Duke’s has $2.50 wells and Red Hooks, and $3.95 “Duketails”—a stupid, stupid name for six very tasty types of extra-strength kamikazes. Very nice appetizers, such as the delectable calamari steak strips, are half price; you can take them to the water-fronty outdoor seating and pretend you’re the  drunken sailor they wrote that song about. Elliott Bay Public House & Brewery  Happy hour everyday, 3p-6p, then 10p-close; 9pm-close on Sunday. An Elliott's Brewhouse is just what Lake City needed. Finally, I can now breathe easier about where to meet clients in this area. About-effin-time. This great brewpub perfectly renovated the building that housed the ole model train shop. Ha, a classic public house & brew pub... with Masterful use of open space, lots of natural wood, cozy furnishings, and plenty of big screens too. Monthly food specials. A proud moment for the Lake City neigborhood indeed! Elysian Brewing Company  4:30-6:30pm, M-Th $2.50 Elysian pints. I have only been there during late nights… Brews are very good. Great food.. but unknown happy hour deals. One would think I’d know- this place is only a block away from my old photo studio. Capitol Hill 1221 E. Pike St. ALSO find Tangletown at 2601 N. 55^th… in south east Greenlake area.

Ing  4-6pm. Open Tues-Sat. Daily drink specials. 1/2 price appetizers. Capitol Hill 1530 Bellevue Ave.

Fado  4-7pm M-F. Drinks? I dunno cause I just order Guinness! $2.50 appetizers. Great Irish bar. 801 First Ave.

Fremont Dock Restaurant  4-6:30 pm daily.  $2.25 wells, with drink specials each day. Live music Saturdays, ladies night and free pool Sunday 6-close. Fremont. 1102 N. 34^th St.

Fremont Fresh Market The weekday Wine Bar happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m., features free munchies along with your discounted glass of vino. Or choose a bottle of your own ($5 corkage fee) to accompany the $12.75 smorgasbord for four from the in-house deli. 3601 Fremont N., 363-3663.

FX McRorys  The famed McRory’s FINALLY has a happy hour!  Offered DAILY to boot. I have been badgering these guys for years on this!  Ok, the $2.45 happy hour menu ranges from their famous chowder to generously made mini prime rib sandwiches with fries. Popcorn Shrimp, Calamari, and other favorites like onion rings, potato skins, and buffalo  wings are also offered, with $1.45 Oyster Shooters. OUTDOOR SEATING! Nightly rotation of micro-beers and wine specials  $2.95, also rotating is a selection of Martinis and manhattans $3.95. Happy hour times 2:45 –6pm and from 9 to close. Galerias Not your usual Mexican place, Galerias is all big  and fancy in a really good way. Happy hour is every day from 3 to 5 p.m., with $3 margaritas and extremely delicious if pricey appetizers—try the  shrimp quesadillas ($6.25). 611 Broadway E., 322-5757.

George and Dragon M-F 3-7pm. $2.50 domestics with $3.25 premium pints. Fremonts classic English style pub. 206 N 36^th St.

Goldies on 45^th 4-6pm everyday. Answer trivia and receive 1/2 off drinks. Sunday $1.50 select micros. Mon: $1.25 select brews. Wallingford. 2121 N 45^th.

Gradys Grillhouse  4-7pm, 10-midnight daily. $1 off wells with food specials. U-dist. 2307 24^th Ave E.

Green Room, The Everybody loves the swank-ish new lounge at the Showbox with its boss DJs and one of the best happy hours in town: $2 wells, $2 beers, and $2 appetizers.. including authentic soft-tortilla tacos and other Mexi-type stuff. Those tacos are delicious! 5 p.m.-8 p.m. every day.  1426 First, 628-3151.

Harbor Place  3-7pm M-F. $1 off drinks and $2 off snacks. Simple. Unbelievable snacks. Upscale restaurant. 96 Union.

Honeyhole Capitol Hill's sweetheart sandwich shop now has a  full bar (what's left without one now? Just like Dick's… maybe? An expanded dinner menu (pasta, grilled chicken kebabs, steak, salads) with a new, sharper look. Happy hour here means $2.50 wells and drafts and $3.95 appetizers including the amazing bacon-and-cream-cheese-stuffed mushrooms. OUTDOOR  SEATING! 5-7 p.m. everyday. 703  E. Pike, 709-1399.

McCormicks Restaurants (Multi-locations) 'The Harborside' their full-venue REMODELING is now complete! Opened Nov 22, 2011. It's bea-u-ti-ful now.. lots of upgrades! Ahem.. million dollar upgrades! Warm colors in wood, rock, and tile fill this all new bar and restaurant. The dining level booths are gorgious. Still located in the 9-story 'AGC' building at the southwest corner of Lake Union, the uber-classic Harborside still sports great happy hour - now with 11 offerings, and all priced at $5... like Dungeness crab spring rolls, Alaskan ling cod fish & chips, and Surf-n-turf sliders... with brews specials too! Hooters Orange short-shorts, skimpy tank tops, $2 pints, $7 pitchers, and truly awful half-price appetizers—boo-yeah! But hey, you’re at Hooters during happy hour- 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The waitresses are ridiculously hot, and one of them, scarily, is way into Christian rock. In following her attendance at an “awesome” Christian rock show featuring “that guy from 98 Degrees.” As if that wasn’t disturbing enough, she doesn’t go into the mosh pit at Christian rock shows for “fear of being groped.” Holy crap! Where are the WWJD bracelets? Manray If the Jetsons were two men who had sex instead of a straight family, they’d be the owners of Manray. The interior is stylish and futuristic, much like the deck of the starship Enterprise, with most occupants wearing clothes as tight as Capt. Picard’s jumpsuit. And Manray serves up $3.75 happy hour double (!) wells and $1.50 domestic beers all week long between 4 and 8 p.m. (till close on Sundays and Mondays). But what’s the real reason to come here? A FREE BUFFET SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY DURING HAPPY HOUR! And if you’re good-looking and male, the other patrons will be buying your drinks. Yeah, a gay bar. OUTDOOR SEATING!  514 E. Pine, 568-0750.

Metropolitan Grill  4-6 daily. 1/2 price appetizers. One of Seattle’s best steakhouses. 820 Second Ave. 

Nikko  Free buffet of pot stickers, chow mein, and California rolls. Not too crowded with great sushi. 5-7 p.m., 1900 Fifth, 322-4641.

Oceanaire  The place is all-swank, and the bar is all high-gloss and gleaming.. but the oysters are extremely fresh, resting on a lovely bed of shaved ice awaiting your arrival. Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. when you may partake of them (and their friends the shrimp) for half-price ...that is; $.75–$1.12 per oyster, or $7.48 for shrimp cocktail.  With the money you save, you can have a $120 glass of Louis XIII cognac. 1700  Seventh, 267-BASS. 

Ohanas A menu of selected sushi nigiri, rolls, and hot appetizers for $2.50, sake for $2.50 and blue Hawaiian for $3.95. $3 sushi and hot apps. Great looking staff and patrons, great place. 5-7 p.m., 2207 First, 956-9329.

O’Shea's Easy Street Pub.  4-6pm daily, and Tues and Thurs all-day specials. $2.50 micros & wells, $4 doubles, Tues $2.50 any Irish pint, Thurs $2.50 shots. Free pool and fries w/2 drinks…That’s an ok deal eh? Wallingford. 309 NE 45^th St.

Owl n' Thistle  A classic Irish-American dive replete with Guinness posters, shamrocks, and so forth… and, lucky for you, a happy hour every day from 4 to 6 p.m. with $2 drafts and $2.50 well drinks. Find a sometimes-elusive waitress and order the supreme happy hour fish and chips  ($2.95)—two big fishes and thick-thick cut fries. And sit still: The seats in  the booths have been known to fall off and send people tumbling to the ground  before they've even got a buzz on. 808 Post Ave., 621-7777.

Ozzies Roadhouse Despite a redecoration that mainly serves to confuse, Ozzie's dives onward at the foot of Queen Anne. Happy hour here, 4 to 6 p.m., is a splendid way to begin a downward spiral of a night, with $2  wells and beers, and a $2 bar menu including wings, chicken fingers, and  their ilk. The food's not going to be anything to write home about, but you're at Ozzie's, so you're obviously not too particular. 105 W. Mercer,  284-4618.

Peoples Pub  Wouldn’t things be better if every day was like Oktoberfest? Well, the gute life is now only a trip to Ballard away, courtesy of the People’s Pub 4 to 7 p.m. happy hour every day of the week (except for Tuesdays, when the whole place closes). All well drinks and most of the beers—which include German favorites from Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, and Bitburger—are just $2.50 a pint, and house wines $3 a glass. Rose Club, The  So, it's not happy hour—it's still boss: Every Monday night is Ladies' Night at this sweet little Mount Baker spot, with  half-price bottles of wine (that's any bottle), $2 beers, and half-price  pizzas (including potato and roasted garlic, caramelized onion and goat  cheese, and specials like spinach, feta, and artichoke heart). P.S.:  Gentlemen are welcome and will receive the same special prices despite their gender—it’s in HONOR of the ladies. 3601 S. McClellan, 725-3654. 

Satellite Lounge Just up the street from the Comet, with its pretty bar, interesting ironwork, and, well, terrible upholstery. But no matter, Monday through Friday from 5 to 7, enjoy $2.50 well drinks and $2.25 microbrews, and 50 percent off all appetizers—which means calamari for $3.50, wings for $3.25, the mysterious "Deep Fried Goodness" for $3.25,  and nachos or quesadillas for $2.65. 1118 E. Sams Steakhouse -CLOSED. Liver likes alcohol, wallet likes money, stomach likes food—you like happy hour at Sam’s Steakhouse. Well drinks are a thrifty $2.75 every day between four and six, and strong enough to steady your shaking hands; and there’s lots of happy hour food, with great Buffalo wings and halibut and chips for $1.95. Ignore the aging UW crowd watching Britney shake her ass on the four TV’s and concentrate on what Sam’s does best: cheap grub and strong booze. Sazerac Named after the potent New Orleans cocktail is one of downtown Seattle's hippest spots. High energy, cutting-edge décor blended with comfortable plush ambiance; Open high ceilings, mahogany booths, and velvet curtains backdrop tasty a Southern-inspired American menu. Toi  All posh: red walls, deep mahogany trim, and a bar inlaid with what the bartender describes as "deep-healing river stones." The happy hour well drinks ($4) are stiff as the starched collars of the businessmen who come here for their end-of-the-day fix, and all Toi's appetizers  (which are so delicious they will make you insane) are half-price. Prawn spring rolls ($4.50) are incredible and almost an entrée; pork tenderloin satay skewers ($2.75) are about the best happy hour snack you could ask for and perfectly complement the liver-numbing whiskey sours. Toreros That odd open-air place in the top of the Broadway Market offers standard-issue Mexi-American happy hour snacks in the  bar, perfect for an odd little dinner before a 7 o’clock movie: $1 beef tacos, $2 nachos and quesadillas, the intriguing $1 bean dip, and happy-hour  priced blended margaritas that come out of a big machine whose sole purpose  is to constantly swirl them around. Typhoon! Happy! Hour! At! Typhoon! The bar is sleek, the yuppies are enjoying their after-work cosmopolitans, and, from 4 to 7 Monday thru Friday, you are eating their highly praised Thai food for cheap and pondering that exclamation point at your leisure. Happy hour well drinks and bar appetizers are $2 each, including larb chicken. Yeah, Larb! 1400 Western, 262-9797. 

Vitos Revel in the dark red vinyl booths and general retro luxury of Vito’s at happy-hour prices Monday through Thursday from 5 to  9 p.m.—yes, until 9 p.m., which gives you plenty of time to enjoy many, many  $2 well drinks or beers, as well as strangely Dick’s-like cheeseburgers with  a few yummy fries ($2!), serviceable mini-pizzas ($2!), and the ubiquitous wings ($2!). If you’re still raring to go at 9, stagger a few doors up to the Adobo  927 Ninth at Madison, 682-2695.

Wasabi Bistro. Upscale bar and restaurant; happy hour with downscale prices. Sushi rolls, sushi, Asian-style chicken wings, tempura, etc. from $3-$6. $3 for beer, $4-$6 for cocktails, wine, and sake. OUTDOOR  SEATING! 4-6 p.m. daily, 2311  Second, 441-6044.
